Humanization of Health Care and Its Impact on Patients and Families: Scientific Review in Mexican Hospitals
Keywords:
Humanization of care, Patients, Families, Hospital management, Service quality, Ethics of careAbstract
The humanization of hospital care recognizes the centrality of the patient and the relevance of family members in the care process. This narrative review synthesizes the scientific evidence available in Mexico on the humanization of care and its impact on patients and families. Empirical studies, reviews, and official documents reporting experiences of humanization, communication strategies, family participation, and practices centered on patient dignity and well-being were analyzed. Findings show that humanized care improves perceptions of quality, satisfaction, treatment adherence, and emotional well-being. Recommendations are proposed to integrate humanization into hospital management in an ethical and sustainable manner (Rivera et al., 2017, p. 210; Morales et al., 2018, p. 55; Gil-Lacruz & Pérez, 2015, p. 92).
